Food and Drink   1 comment

Walking, eating and drinking are our favourite past times, so you’ll hear a lot about it! For hundreds of views from a twosome who have been reviewing the Island for year’s go to Matt & Cat‘s website. Booking is essential for most places during the holidays.

New for 2015 were Thompson’s, Newport, The Rectory at the Wax Works, Harbour Kitchen in Cowes, El Patron, Newport

There are a number of places we still want to try. We have ticked some off, some of which have been added to our favourites, some have just been deleted!! You can’t like them all! These are still on the list to try;

Thompsons

The Bandstand for Mrs OSGH

The Harbour Kitchen

Toninos (on a list from 2013)

Murrays (also on a list for 2013)

Piano Café

The George (no we still haven’t eaten here)

Yarmouth Deli

The Hut

Our 2015 favourites are (in absolutely no particular order):

Pendletons, Shanklin for their friendliness and good English food with local produce
El Patron for bringing Mexico to the Island
Waterfront Inn, for it’s sweet potato fries and moules
Best Dressed Crab for the crab and floatyness!!
El Toro, Ventnor for the best Tapas on the Island and fabulous service
Phileas Foggs, Ventnor for their variety and beautiful colonial style building and lovely owner Chef. Nicest man on the Island?
Bonchurch Inn, Bonchurch for their authentic Italian. Unbeaten in the summer for lunch in the courtyard
The Red Lion, Freshwater For their good pub food and mobile phone fines! Lovely garden.
The Taverners, Godshill Really really good pub food and lovely atmosphere and sometimes with an Asian twist. Fantastic pie – but a bit of a gut buster
The Seaview Hotel with their 2015 Michelin Bib Gourmand fo their Focus on Food
The Blue Crab, Yarmouth Fabulous seafood for all pockets. Possibly the cheapest fish n chips on the Island to the most varied fish menu. I had the whole crab, which was messy and yummy. I find the messier the food the tastier!
Coast Bar & Dining Room, Cowes every time we had walked past it looked like a Champagne bar. Thank goodness for the winter quiet. A fab place with a few tables and fabulous home made food – ham hock terrine with home made piccililli. Need I say more? And of course good wine.
The Beach Shack in Sandown (yes, Sandown) lovely award winning crab cakes, seafood specials and nice wine and it’s right on the beach.

Also Cantina, Shed, Three Buoys, Miachelangelos, Quarr Abbey cafe and farm shop, Primrose Cafe, Olivos, Yarbridge Inn

Our favourite places for a drink (again in no particular order):

The Watferfront Inn (aka Badger’s House), our ‘local’
The Crab Inn, Shanklin because it’s always been in my memories
The Fisherman’s Cottage, Shanklin Beach because it’s just adorable. We do take quite an offense as residents that we don’t get to enjoy it in the winter though
Crab and Lobster Tap, Ventnor for it’s music and atmosphere
The Buddle Inn, St Catherine’s for it’s great ale, great views, walk to the lighthouse and good pub grub
The Old Fort, Seaview for it’s great views and funkiness
The Boathouse, Springvale for it’s Dad’s Army! (And good wine and food)
Harry’s Bar, Shanklin for it’s Friday night bands
